FAQ
How can Cetaphil DERMACONTROL Foam Wash be fragrance-free if it has a scent?
Cetaphil DERMACONTROL wash has a masking fragrance listed in the ingredients. A masking fragrance is one that does not stay on the skin. Once water is used to remove the product from the skin, the fragrance also leaves the skin. It is utilized to cover up the natural smell of the ingredients in many products.
How does Cetaphil DERMACONTROL Oil Control Foam Wash differ from Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser?
While both products have good cleansing properties, Cetaphil DERMACONTROL offers a novel, oil-absorbing zinc complex for:
- Deep pore cleansing
- Significantly reduced surface oil levels
- Hydrating cleanse
- Soft matte finish
How does Cetaphil DERMACONTROL Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30 differ from Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15?
Apart from having a higher SPF, Cetaphil DERMACONTROL offers advanced technology specific for the needs of oily, combination and blemish-prone skin:
- Oleosome technology achieves a higher SPF sun protection factor with lower concentrations and/or fewer sunscreen agents, which reduces the potential for irritation.
- Soothing agents, allantoin and glycyrrhetinic acid, are included in the formulation to help overcome any irritation, burning and/or stinging that may occur from using a SPF product.
- Zinc gluconate helps reduce oil levels. Oil-absorbing ingredients provide the skin with a long-lasting matte appearance.
While Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 remains an ideal daily moisturizer for people with normal skin, oily skin types will receive additional benefits from the use of Cetaphil DERMACONTROL Moisturizer SPF 30.
Do the cosmetic benefits of the mattifying ingredients make Cetaphil DERMACONTROL Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30 more suitable for women than men?
No. These ingredients are used worldwide in skin care products for males as well as females. In clinical tests carried out by Cetaphil, both subjects found the product cosmetically acceptable. The majority (>90%) liked the texture, feel and colour of the product and nearly 80% commented that use of the moisturizer helped their face look and feel less greasy. Plus, year-round protection from UV rays is recommended for everyone, making the SPF formulation ideal for women and men alike.
What are the unique benefits of the Cetaphil DERMACONTROL Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30?
The product is a lightweight lotion that absorbs easily into the skin, leaving no residue on the skin’s surface. Mattifying ingredients, such as polymethyl methacrylate and aluminium starch octenylsuccinate, create a no-shine, matte appearance of the skin.
Are Cetaphil DERMACONTROL products water-based?
Yes, Cetaphil DERMACONTROL Oil Control Wash and Moisturizer SPF 30 are both water-based products, formulated with purified water.
What are the benefits to using both DERMACONTROL products? Are they really better together?
While both function excellently as “stand alone” products, use of the combination will help ensure consistent outcomes. The combination of products is easy to include into a daily routine, making an ideal skin care regimen that can help relieve skin dryness, irritation and problems frequently encountered by acne patients. Cetaphil DERMACONTROL products are specifically designed to be well-tolerated by acne sufferers. Both products are designed to control oil and replenish the skin’s moisture barrier. So, by using both products, you will ensure that benefits achieved with one are maintained by use of the other.
Can I use Cetaphil products if I’m pregnant?
Cetaphil products, with the exception of the Daily Facial Moisturizers with SPF, do not contain drug ingredients. Thus, they should be safe to use during pregnancy.
Are your products gluten-free?
The chance of having gluten in our products is limited. Although we use vegetable-based ingredients in Cetaphil, we do not have any that are wheat derivatives.
I have a nut allergy. Do your products contain nuts?
Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion and Cetaphil DailyAdvance Hydrating Lotion contain macadamia nut oil. We use this oil because it closely mimics some of the oils found in your skin. Please note that our oil is heat-shocked to remove proteins, which are the oil fractions responsible for allergy. That being said, we realize the severity of nut allergies and leave the decision to you and your physician as to whether these products are suitable for you.
Do your products contain any animal-derived ingredients?
We have asked all our ingredient suppliers to supply us with only synthetic or vegetable-derived ingredients for all of our Cetaphil products. They agreed to our request and committed to notifying us if they ever intend to switch to an animal-derived ingredient. So, you can rest assured that our Cetaphil products contain no animal-derived ingredients.
How are the alcohols contained in Cetaphil products different from those found in other products that tend to irritate the skin?
Alcohols can be skin irritants, but only the “drying” alcohols (the most common ones are ethyl alcohol and isopropyl or rubbing alcohol). Cetaphil products contain none of these irritating or drying alcohols. The alcohols in Cetaphil are much larger molecules than the typical “drying” alcohols. Thus, the ingredients we use, such as cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol, tend to trap water and are moisturizing – not drying. These ingredients are part of the reason why Cetaphil is such a gentle cleanser.
Is Cetaphil RESTORADERM safe for infant skin?
Yes, Cetaphil RESTORADERM is clinically proven to be safe for use on infant and toddler skin from 3 months of age.
What makes RESTORADERM Lotion particularly good for dry, itchy skin?
Emollient-rich formulations and innovative technologies attract water to the skin, while nourishing and protecting the skin’s natural moisture barrier.
- Miracare technology produces a soap-free liquid cleanser that encapsulates high levels of moisturizing oils to cleanse and hydrate dry skin.
- Patented ceramide technology helps replenish the skin’s natural oils to improve its ability to retain moisture.
RESTORADERM Lotion is described as a "creamy lotion". Can you explain what makes it like a cream and the reasons why it is labeled as a lotion?
Cetaphil RESTORADERM is considered a "hybrid" as it offers the best of both worlds; it has the moisturizing properties of a cream, but its thickness allows it to be dispensed through a pump; thus, classifying it as a lotion.
- Lotion spreads easily on the skin, decreasing unnecessary friction and irritation
- Absorbs easily
What does non-comedogenic mean?
Non-comedogenic means the product does not clog pores.
What is the difference between a “soap” and a “non-soap” product?
Soaps can be irritating to sensitive skin since they are alkaline (basic or have a high pH) and can leave a film on the skin. Non-soap bars are pH-balanced (neutral pH) and do not form films, even in hard water. So, essentially, a non-soap bar is milder.
Is the Cetaphil Bar as mild as the liquid cleanser?
No. Our bar was formulated to be milder than other bars, but is not as mild as the liquid cleanser.
