FAQ
What does non-comedogenic mean?
Does not clog pores
What is the difference between SPF 15 and SPF 30? Is it double the protection?
An SPF 30 does not provide double the protection. The difference is only in time. For example,
if your skin starts to burn in 10 minutes without any sun protection then a product labelled SPF
15 gives you 15x or 150 minutes of protection. SPF 30 gives you 30x or 300 minutes of protection.
However, the amount of UVB rays that are absorbed is NOT double. It is calculated as follows:
SPF 15 - allows 1/15 or 6% of the UVB rays to get through to your skin, giving you 94% UVB protection.
SPF 30 - allows 1/30 or 3% of the UVB rays to get through to your skin, giving you 97% UVB protection.
What is the difference between SOAP and a NON-SOAP product?
Soaps can be irritating to sensitive skin since they are alkaline (basic or have
a high pH) and can leave a film on the skin. Non-soap bars are pH balanced (neutral
pH) and do not form films even in hard water. So, a non-soap bar is milder.
Is the Cetaphil BAR as mild as the liquid cleanser?
No. Our bar was formulated to be milder than other bars, but is not as mild as the
liquid cleanser.
Are Cetaphil products biodegradable?
YES.
I know that alcohols are drying to the skin and noticed that your product contains alcohol. I thought your product was for sensitive and dry skin?
Alcohols can be skin irritants but only the “drying” alcohols (the most common ones
are ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol). Cetaphil products contain none of these
irritating or drying alcohols. The alcohols in Cetaphil are much larger molecules
than the typical “drying” alcohols. Thus, ingredients such as cetyl alcohol and
stearyl alcohol tend to trap water and are moisturizing not drying. These ingredients
are part of the reason that Cetaphil is such a gentle cleanser.
I am only to use products that are oil-free and noticed that your product contains macadamia nut oil. I thought your products were non-comedogenic?
A product that contains an oil is not always comedogenic. Comedogenicity is something
that must be determined by testing. Our Cetaphil products are tested for comedogenicity.
